State Game Breeding Station “VITINYA” is located in the western part of the Balkan range, among magnificent beech forests and mixed deciduous and coniferous stands. It is just 40 km northeast of Sofia. The main line of communications between northern and southern parts of Bulgaria – “Hemus” highway passes through the territory of the Station. ”Vitinya” spreads over a total area of 15,000 ha. The relief is distinctively mountainous, being a complex system of ridges and gullies in different directions. The numerous steep slopes account for the significant differences in altitude. The highest point is under Murgash peak (1,600 m) and the lowest point is the nearby Bebresh dam – 500 m. Woodlands cover 95% of the whole territory. Despite its small area, the diversity of game is relatively large. ”Vitinya” has three fenced areas with a total of 501 ha for intensive breeding and use of mouflon, fallow deer and yak. The main game species are: RED DEER, ROE DEER, WILD BOAR and YAK. From predators we have WOLF, FOX and WILD CAT. “Vitinya” is one of the State Game Breeding Stations best specialized in Small Game Hunting – for PHEASANT, PARTRIDGE, ROCK PARTRIDGE and WOOD PIGEON. The fishing includes rainbow trout, carp and grass carp.
