State Game Breeding Station “TOPOLOVGRAD” is situated in the central part and the northern slopes of Sakar Mountain and along the Tundzha river-valley. It covers a total area of about 25,300 ha. The relief is typically mountainous with predominant deciduous forests as well as some coniferous massifs and mixed stands. The Station is about 300 km from the capital Sofia and 140 km from the airport near the city of Bourgas. The main game species here are RED DEER and WILD BOAR. From the feather game species there are PHEASANT and WOODCOCK. The most widely spread predatory representatives are JACKAL and FOX. Red deer has been introduced into the Sakar Mountain from the elite Game Breeding Stations “Palamara” and “Sherba” and nowadays is established as a gene bank for these species in the whole region. There is a considerable stock of almost all representatives of the daily raptor species, which are subject to photo hunting.
