State Game Breeding Station “ROUSSALKA” is situated about 200 km from the capital Sofia, on the northern slopes of the Central Balkan range and at the foot of its highest pick - Botev peak. It stretches over nearly 13,000 ha of very rugged terrains which are covered with centuries-old beech forests. The tranquility and the virgin nature of the area combine to protect the natural habitats of RED DEER, ROE DEER, WILD BOAR and BROWN BEAR. The trophies available for brown bear vary from 350 to 450 CIC points; for red deer – 7 to 9 kg; for wild boar – 18 to 23 cm and for roe deer – 300 to 400 g. The best trophies gained up to date are: brown bear – 475 CIC points; red deer – 12 kg; roe deer – 420 g and wild boar – about 25 cm.
Tourist information:
“Roussalka” arranges excursions to the alpine chalets “Pleven”, “Ambaritsa”, “Taja” and trips to Botev peak. It also offers visits to natural landmarks and historical sites as well as horseback riding and photo hunting.
