| State Game Breeding Station “RHODOPY” is situated on the slopes of the Central Rhodopes, about 20 km from the high-mountain town of Batak. It covers a total area of about 7,200 ha and its altitude varies from 1,200 to 2,000 m. The relief is typically mountainous, rugged and partly uneven. The tree diversity in the Station is determined by the deciduous forests of beech, aspen and stone oak as well as the natural 200 years old coniferous forests composed mainly of Scots pine and spruce, mixed with fir and Macedonian pine. The Station is 175 km from the capital Sofia and 80 km to the airport near the city of Plovdiv. The main game species are: RED DEEER, ROE DEER, WILD BOAR, BROWN BEAR, WILD GOAT and CAPERCAILLIE. Among the predators there are: WOLF, FOX, WILD CAT, BEECH MARTEN and PINE MARTEN. The predominating trophies are for red deer with a weight of 8 to 10 kg; roe deer – 300 to 400 g and wild boar with tusks length of 22 to 24 cm. A wild goat trophy awarded a gold medal and 110.18 CIC points is among the best hunting achievements. Wild boar trophies gained in the region and awarded with silver medals complete the trophy collection. |
