State Game Breeding Station “ALABAK” is situated about 130 km from the capital Sofia and the nearest airport, and about 8 km from Velingrad. Its territory of 12,000 ha with an altitude ranging between 800 and 1,800 m covers the northwestern part of the Western Rhodopes surrounded by Velishko ridge and the rivers Ablanitza, Bistritza and Grancharitza. The vegetation in the region of the station is mixed - massifs of Scots and Austrian pine, of fir and beech dominate. Such diverse environment is a natural habitat for RED DEER and WILD BOAR. The old coniferous forest “Arapchal” is one of the biggest Rhodopean habitats of the CAPERCAILLIE. Among the predators the most common is the WOLF. Magnificent Rhodopean scenery opens in “Kleptuza”, located near “Chepino” neighborhood. “Rogachitza” is in the “Yundola” country and includes century old forests of fir and spruce, separated by beautiful forest meadows.
