Banya is situated beside Stryama river, in the central part of the picturesque Stryama valley, surrounded on south in a semicircle by Sredna Gora Mountain and on north-by Stara Planina. It is 125 km from the capital Sofia, 12 km distant south of Karlovo, 14 km northeast of Hissarya and 47 km north of Plovdiv.
The climate is transitionally continental with Mediterranean influence. The winter is short, the spring begins early, the summer is temperately hot and the autumn is warm and mild. The average annual temperature is 11.5 °C.
