State Game Breeding Station “SHIROKA POLYANA” is situated in the west part of the Western Rhodopes Mountain. It covers a total area of 11,444 ha. The relief is distinctively mountainous and the altitude varies from 1,000 to 1,790 m. Scots pine and spruce are the main tree species but fir, beech, aspen, sessile oak, Macedonian pine, alder and birch are also present. The Station is no more than 100 km from Plovdiv Airport and 190 km from the capital Sofia. The rivers and the dam lakes built here – “Shiroka polyana”, “Gergana”, “Dzhenevra” and “Levski” offer excellent opportunities for fishing and relaxation. The main game species here are: RED DEER, ROE DEER, WILD BOAR, BROW BEAR, WILD GOAT, HARE and CAPERCAILLIE as well as FOX.
