| State Game Breeding Station “ROPOTAMO” is situated 45 km on south of the city of Bourgas in the recesses of the northeastern coastal part of Strandzha mountain. It covers a total area of about 20,000 ha. Ropotamo River, which passes through divides the Station in two equal parts. The relief is low hilly to plain with an average altitude of about 80 to 120 m. The vegetation consists of low-growing tree species like hornbeam, flowering ash, elm, ash and alder. Proximity to the Black Sea provides mild and humid climate with relatively worm winters. The main game species are: RED DEER, FALLOW DEER, ROE DEER, WILD BOAR and MOUFLON. Predatory species include WOLF, JACKAL and FOX. The eastern Black sea migratory highway “Via Pontica” passes over the territory of “Ropotamo”. This explains the presence of various migratory birds like WILD DUCK, GOOSE and particularly WOODCOCK, which is a favorite of many foreign tourists visiting the region during the autumn and winter months. A record for “Ropotamo” is a red deer trophy of 250 CIC points weighing 14 kg. The fallow deer trophies reach a weight of up to 4.7 kg and the national trophy record, shot here, has been evaluated as 212 CIC points. Among the most attractive hunting opportunities is a wild boar with a weight approaching 250 to 300 kg with tusk length from 28 to 30 cm. |
