State Game Breeding Station “MAZALAT” is situated on the southern slope of the most beautiful part of the Balkan range, near the town of Kazanlak and the famous Rose valley. It covers an area of 35,813 ha. The altitude varies from 1,450 m at its highest point – Bouhala peak to 550 m at its lowest point. Within its mountainous part the beech forests dominate the scenery while in the lower parts oak stands mixed with coniferous species are prevalent. The Station is 220 km from the capital Sofia and 200km from the airport nearby the city of Bourgas. In the alpine part of the Station the main game species are: RED DEER, ROE DEER, WILD BOAR, BROWN BEAR and WOLF. As “Mazalat” is one of the State Game Breeding Stations best specialized in Small Game Hunting, its small game areas offer an opportunity for the hunting of HARE, PHEASANT, ROCK PARTRIDGE and migratorygame species. The Station has a breeding farm for pheasant and chukar (alectoris chukar).
