State Game Breeding Station “CHEPINO” is situated in “Chehlyovo” country in the western part of the Rhodope Mountain, 25 km from the mountainous and spa resort Velingrad and about 130 km from the capital Sofia. It occupies an area of 34,481 ha of typical mountainous relief with an altitude ranging between 800 and 2,200 m. The natural forest stands consist of Austrian and Scots pine, fir, spruce, beech, osier and aspen. The main game species are: RED DEER, ROE DEER, WILD BOAR, WILD GOAT and CAPRCAILLIE. The predatory representatives are WOLF and FOX. The best trophies gained in the region of the Station are: red deer – 11.1 kg; wild boar – 24.5 cm and wild goat – 110 CIC points.
